A tribute to the men of the early United States Geological and Geographical Survey, who, under the leadership of Ferdinand V. Hayden, explored the little known interior west of the United States in the 1870's. Utilizing the photographic plates of the Survey's photographer, William Henry Jackson, the author is able to give the reader a feel of what it was like to explore uncharted territories of what are now Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. Scarce. Acquired from the library of Jay Lininger, publisher of Matrix: A History of Mineral Collecting, who assisted the author in the publication of this book. The author, Frank Chambers, was a well known seller of geoscience publications in the 1970's' through 1990's. 128 pages.
